Obstruction

My goodness - three days is a long time to be away. I have been tremendously busy putting together final projects in all my various artistic endeavors. This weekend I will be out of town. Tonight I attended the opening reception for Art in the Village - it was a pleasure to see the elation on the kids' faces as they went up to the stage to receive their awards. I hope they were inspired to continue making art.

My work has been good to me lately.

If you can make it out this Thursday night to Little Tokyo you will see some of my work. I think it will be a lot of fun.

I find myself drawn to the Polaroid, but I wonder how much validity as an artistic tool it contains. I know there is some history of it, but I wonder if it is too easy? If anyone knows, please share.

The Distortion of my Legs

The Distortion of my Legs
Polaroid

I (finally) bought a Polaroid camera in Oakland this weekend at the White Elephant Sale. Film is expensive, but I can justify it. They are going to stop making film by 2009, but I hear that Fugi - which produces it in Japan - is going to take over the market here. Or you will at least be able to get it on the "grey market" as the old camera repair man told me through his thick spectacles.

I don't think there is a need to panic.

Could have more contrast though.

This is a beautiful podcast about a young woman trying to connect with an absent father:

The Cat, My first salted paper print

I don't like talking about my art, but I don't mind telling you how I made it. If I can remember.

Or if I am not lazy.

I'll start out with this.

The Cat
Shot on a...um, Canon EOS ~? Kodak Portra 400

Also in class we learned how to make salted paper prints. Using salt (any kind of salt) and - oh gosh - I don't remember exactly. Wait, look here. Silver nitrate - duh.

I am in love.

My first salted paper print
Salt and distilled water solution on "good paper."

A million ideas came to me. I even bought film. But...the inevitable "but."

Life drawing is superb. I'd scan in today's sketchbook, but it is very close to bed.
